Communication and Contact Information
There are different ways that you will receive information from the third grade classrooms and Oakwood Elementary.
Communicating Using Daily Planners
Your child puts his/her daily assignments in their planner and any daily assigned homework will come home in your child's Homework folder.
Occasionally, there may be a handwritten note from your child's teacher to communicate with you so please check your child’s planner daily.
Communicating Using Tuesday Folders
Tuesday folders contain all important notices and graded assignments and tests.
Communicating Using Monthly Newsletters
Each month, the third grade team releases a newsletter which will be sent on Class Dojo and posted on our Oakwood Elementary website. Should you need a paper copy each month, please notify your child's teacher. This newsletter outlines the academic concepts and skills your child has been working on during the previous month. Additionally, important dates and reminders are also included for your convenience.
You also have options in the way you wish to reach out to your child's teacher:
Communicating by E-mail
Teacher's check their emails during the day and find it the most effective method of communication. Please feel free to email your child's teacher ANYTIME you have a question, concern, or comment. Click on the following to reach your child's teacher:
Mrs. Boff: [email protected]
Mrs. Carpenter: [email protected]
Mrs. Rogers: rogerssu@hickoryschools.net
Communicating with Class Dojo
All three third grade teachers use the Class Dojo app so joining their classroom is a perfect way to receive messages from your child's teacher. Each teacher uses this app to provide short messages regarding special events, field trips, or updates on homework assignments. Enrollment codes for each third grade classroom are being forwarded to parents during the beginning of the school year. If you do not receive your teacher's enrollment code or have any questions on how to enroll, contact your child's teacher for assistance.
Please note: Transportation changes should continue to be sent to the school in writing or via the Class Dojo App. Please do not call after 2:30 with changes for that day's dismissal. Additionally, academic progress and/or behaviors are discussed by telephone or face to face conferences (not using Class Dojo). Thank you!
Communicating During School Hours
If there is anything you would like your child's teacher to be aware of during school hours, you feel it is extremely important or time sensitive, please call the office as teachers cannot check email during instructional time. The third grade planning period is from 10:40 - 11:30 which is typically the best time to reach us (provided we are not in a meeting). We are also available before the school day which starts at 8:00 am and following dismissal. Oakwood's dismissal time is 3:20 pm. The telephone number to reach the school office is (828) 322 - 1340.
Should you wish to leave a voicemail for your child's teacher, please call the office and asked to be transferred to voicemail.
